This summer, the winger will be in high demand, and his agent Ian Harte has downplayed rumours

of a new contract.

The most recent team to be linked to a transfer for Jack Clarke of Sunderland is West Ham United.

The 23-year-old winger is expected to leave Sunderland this summer since several teams are

rumoured to be interested in him, despite his repeated statements that he has liked his time there.

According to iNews, the Black Cats turned down a £16.5 million offer from Italian team Lazio for

the winger during the winter transfer window. Although Sunderland did present Clarke with a new contract, it is thought that it was never signed. Clarke remains bound under contract until 2026.

Ian Harte, Clarke’s agent, told iNews earlier this month that he doesn’t think Clarke will agree to a

new contract with the team.

Few people are aware of this, but according to Harte, Jack had to play a few games at the beginning

of the season in order to be eligible for a new contract. “A bargain was presented, but it wasn’t satisfactory. Although we were pleased to sign the agreement, it was done earlier in the summer and hasn’t been discussed since. There is a [wage] system there. That’s something that many clubs have.

I don’t think [Sunderland] wants to undermine any football player’s framework, so I don’t see it occurring.

Former Sunderland player Gordon Armstrong has already said that replacing Dan Ballard, a

center-back with a high goal %, would be easier than replacing Clarke.

Given that the goal of the model is to capitalise on youthful talent, Clarke’s situation is tricky

because

the club’s owner, Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, will be careful to keep the player’s present contract intact.
