Sky Sports: Why Milan’s chase of Zirkzee is on hold.

Joshua Zirkzee has been admired by AC Milan for a number of months,

but as the negotiations draw to a close, the pace of the deal has decreased.

Commission has been the primary cause, but a study claims Paulo Fonseca is also to blame.

There are very few guarantees during the transfer market,

but in Milan’s situation, one that can be given is that a new striker will be bought;

in recent months, Zirkzee appears to be that striker.

The Rossoneri had been interested in the Dutchman for some time and considered him to be their best option to replace Olivier Giroud, as we wrote at the end of 2023.

But recently, the sale has slowed down, and Kia Joorabchian’s commission demands have been named as the primary cause. Corriere dello Sport (via Milan News) cites this as the explanation, but there’s more catch to the story.

According to their source, Milan is principally opposed to the transaction because they do not want to pay a €15 million fee on top of the release clause,

and his agent will not lower this amount. Paulo Fonseca, however,

observes a distinct profile heading his Diavolo team.

He would rather have a profile more akin to Olivier Giroud, a “penalty area” forward, than someone like Zirkzee, who defines himself as a “9.5.”
