OFFICIAL – Stoke City sign leeds united star on a free transfer

With the transfer market presently open, the Potters are trying to strengthen their team in order to prevent having another relegation scrap the next season. Viktor Johansson from Rotherham United has already been signed by the Championship team with an estimated £1 million after his release clause was activated. Ben Gibson also transferred to the Bet365 Stadium as a free agent when his contract with Norwich City expired.

But the Stoke-on-Trent team isn’t going to give up there. According to the Daily Record, Stoke City has entered the running for Aberdeen star Barron, whose Pittodrie contract expires at the end of the month. As of right now, there is no hint that the young midfield player would sign a contract extension with the Dons before June ends in just over two weeks. In addition, the Daily Record has disclosed that Barron’s signing is also being pursued by Cardiff City, Swansea City, Plymouth Argyle, and Scottish powerhouse Rangers.

But, the same magazine indicated in April that Leeds United was monitoring Barron’s circumstances in Scotland and was interested in hiring him this summer; additionally, the Coventry Telegraph reported that Coventry City was also interested in the Scotland U21 international.

Given how competitive the competition is for the Barron, the player must choose a team where he will most likely play regular first-team football. Given the club’s financial resources, Leeds might be the most alluring suitor, but Stoke City, Cardiff, Plymouth, Coventry, or Swansea might be able to provide him with regular playing time.

If Barron leaves on a free transfer, Aberdeen will undoubtedly feel betrayed. Due to their recent struggles, the team may lose a player for free in the next years who could be valued at millions of dollars.
