Middlesbrough set to make Newcastle United swoop, talks to begin

Since taking over as manager of Middlesbrough in October 2022, Michael Carrick has had ample opportunity to collaborate with a reliable coaching staff at the Riverside

But as with every team, new players are added to strengthen the ranks behind the boss, and coaches leave. Carrick experienced the same thing in his first role with Boro.

It appears like Middlesbrough will be adding a new member to their backroom staff, and manager Carrick is well acquainted with this individual.

Teesside Live stated that Carrick’s backroom team will soon welcome his younger brother Graeme from Newcastle United.

Boro asked the Magpies if he could speak with the 39-year-old, and they agreed. Consequently, a move is anticipated when the brothers reunite at Riverside Stadium.

Carrick has spent his whole coaching career working in the academy at Newcastle United. In addition to his club responsibilities, he spent 15 years as an England player from 2007 to 2022. He is currently their U18s manager.

It appears that Middlesbrough will be able to recruit Carrick to their coaching staff this summer after permission to start discussions was granted.

Although it is unclear when the transfer will be finalized, the Championship club should consider themselves well-served. It is hoped that having an extra set of hands at the Riverside will benefit boss Carrick even more as they attempt to climb the Championship standings.

If the transfer goes through, he will become a member of the backroom team alongside Jonathan Woodgate, Alan Fettis, Grant Leadbitter, and others.

Given that Aaron Danks is most likely going to join Vincent Kompany at Bayern Munich as well, it is a much-needed appointment. The two are about to reunite in Germany after working together at Anderlecht.

Apart from hiring new coaches, Middlesbrough hopes to close the gap on the promotion race with a successful summer transfer window.

Following their agreement to permanently retain Luke Ayling following his productive loan at Leeds United, Boro made their second summer transfer window acquisition of the season over the weekend when they made a bid for Delano Burgzorg.

The attacker spent the 2023–2024 season with Huddersfield Town, who were relegated, although this move maintains him in England.

It is hoped that more fresh faces will enter through the door after Ayling and Burgzorg. From this point forward, there may be additional movement on the transfer front as the window is now formally open.
