A Sunderland defender is reportedly wanted by five teams this summer,

including Leeds United, as Daniel Farke attempts to address his lack of options at right back.

Connor Roberts was let go by Leeds earlier this summer following his loan at Elland Road.

Although there is some interest in recruiting Roberts long-term, Leeds will have to wait to do so.

This is a result of Burnley’s managerless situation.

Archie Gray is considered a midfielder playing out of place on the right,

while Sam Byram has signed a new one-year contract. However, his injury history is nothing new.

Leeds needs a new right-back, possibly two,

as Jamie Shackleton is still expected to depart the team at the end of the month.

If at all feasible, one that could cover both defensive sides would be great.

According to a recent Leeds Live article,

Leeds is considering a raid of Jack Clarke’s Sunderland in order to acquire right-back Trai Hume,

who is 22 years old. All 46 of Sunderland’s league games were started by the “brilliant” ace last season.

Hume is well known for his extraordinary endurance, strong work ethic,

and dependability—as seen by the fact that he started all 46 league games.

The full-back is capable of playing in the middle and on either side of the defense.

But Leeds is not the only team chasing Hume.

Aston Villa is reportedly considering a deal with AC Milan for Poland’s Matty Cash,

while other interested parties include Napoli, Leicester, and Bournemouth.

Leeds may also have to deal with Hume’s presentation by CAA Base,

who, according to TransferMarkt, also manage Djed Spence.

Naturally, Spence had a miserable time at Leeds and had his loan terminated early.

Hume has long been a source of interest; Leeds was formerly connected to

Prior to the January transfer window, Hume was being connected to Leeds;

however, he remained at the Stadium of Light, at least for the time being,

due to competition from Burnley and Leicester.

With his championship history and his propensity for staying healthy—

something Byram cannot claim—Hume would be a fantastic addition.

He might serve as Luke Ayling’s long-term replacement.
