SAINTS returnee Adam Lallana praised manager Russell Martin for restoring the pathway for youngsters at the club.

Players 22 years of age or younger made up a large portion of Martin’s promotion-winning squad,

with players like Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Sam Edozie playing significant roles.

Jack Stephens and Will Smallbone, two academy graduates, were also included in Southampton’s

starting lineup against Wembley.

Sam Amo-Ameyaw, Tyler Dibling, Jayden Meghoma, and Cam Brag also had an appearance in the 2023–2024

season and are all given minutes in the senior squad.

Lallana, who came through the academy, is happy that other athletes are now

having the same chance to succeed at Southampton as he did.

After his one-year comeback was announced, Lallana addressed the team and stated, “The club are back where they belong.

“Kudos to Russell for his work in this situation. He has overseen a significant player churn as well as

high expectations at this football team.

“He has led the squad back to the Premier League, where they play against many formidable opponents.

“This season, the point totals demonstrated that. Seeing so many young players is encouraging;

it appears that the trail is returning.

That truly is impressive about Russell.

“This club was everything to me.” It provided me with the path; it was obvious.

There were rumors that I could be departing when the football team was demoted to League One.

“I quickly realized that I didn’t need to go and that I didn’t want to leave.

I developed alongside the football team throughout League One, the Championship, and the Premier League.”

“I feel like my development mirrored the club’s,” he went on. It was underwhelming. People didn’t want me to go,

and I completely get that. That was an

It turns out to have been the right choice in the end. It brings me great joy to return.

I still think I have a lot to offer and can do to help.

“Even when I wasn’t present, I still followed this fantastic football team,” the player said.

Lallana, 36, combined his playing career at Brighton with a coaching position with England’s junior team last season.

Lallana met some current Saints players while serving in that capacity with the Young Lions:

“I’ve got a good relationship with a few of the players.”

Taylor (Harwood-Bellis) is someone I know well from last year’s England under-21 squad.

Jack Stephens and I were here, and I knew Sam Edozie. I maintain communication with numerous players.

“I think I’ll fit in quite quickly. I have enough experience and wisdom now. I should get into bed quite soon.”

Lallana attended the team’s 1-0 Championship playoff victory over Leeds United last month as a visitor.

He acknowledged that he was really nervous while he and several other club dignitaries observed.

“I am ecstatic for the boys; their promotion is an amazing accomplishment. With all the pressure involved,

it’s difficult to win, especially when doing it that way.

“I was surprised at how anxious I became. It was quite painful to witness. Beside Matt (Le Tissier),

I was seated. The director of the academy, Andy Goldie, was behind me and he looked like a tiny child.

“I was sitting in front of the board. Knowing that I will soon sign but not having yet participated seemed a little strange. I had to control my feelings a little.”
