After hitting sensation Benjamin Sesko turned down Arsenal this summer,

Newcastle United has been given an unexpected second chance to sign one of the most exciting possibilities in Europe going forward.

The explosive RB Leipzig attacker, who scored 14 goals in his Bundesliga debut, has previously

been linked to the Magpies. On this occasion, though, the Gunners were first in queue for a move.

Sesko, however, has agreed to a new deal with the German team, so any Premier League parties

who were interested will have to wait at least another year. When his contract was extended, the

21-year-old stated, “I am really happy to be here. I had a good first year at RB Leipzig.” The whole package—the team, the club, the city, and the fans—is very amazing in my opinion. Thus, I felt that

the early contract renewal was the right course of action.”

This time, Newcastle was not vying for the young Slovenian’s signature, but Arsenal regarded him

as the perfect attacking weapon to lead their Premier League title challenge both next season and

for many years to come.

But before, the Magpies had a strong desire to sign the striker and bring him to St James’ Park.

In 2022, negotiations took place, with Elvis Basanovic, the player’s agent, travelling to Tyneside to

talk about a potential transfer. The striker, who was then only starting out for Salzburg, finally

decided to move to the Bundesliga instead of accepting many offers from the Premier League.

Since then, Basanovic has been observed attending Premier League matches, sparking interest

from Manchester United and Arsenal. Given Sesko’s recent stratospheric ascent, there has been a perception that only a Champions League club would be able to lure him in. In the event that they

make it back to the top four, a player of Sesko’s calibre would undoubtedly be a desirable transfer

option.
