KLD keen on appointing Frank Lampard as new Sunderland Manager despite warnings – Next 24hrs will determine the outcome

FRANK Lampard will not be Sunderland’s next coach.

The former Chelsea and England midfielder has been a bookmakers’ favourite in the last 24 hours after his odds fell, but he is not being considered to take leadership of the Black Cats.

Lampard has been heavily linked with the Burnley post this summer, but the Sunderland leadership has not considered him.

After the search for Liam Rosenior ended earlier this week, the Black Cats are said to have identified their top targets.

Last week, Kyril Louis-Dreyfus stated that he hoped a head coach appointment was “imminent”.

Sunderland chiefs admire QPR manager Marti Cifuentes, but there has been no hint that an offer has been made.

Sunderland are believed to have other top targets, and discussions have resumed this week.

Rene Maric’s future is still unclear. The 31-year-old Austrian, who presently coaches Bayern Munich’s Under-19s, has been on Sunderland’s radar since early in the recruitment process. He was supposed to join Vincent Kompany’s first-team coaching staff at the Allianz Arena, but the move has yet to be confirmed. Sunderland continues to constantly watch Maric’s situation.
