JUST IN: 82 goals Michail Antonio signs a two year contract extension with West Ham United – Fabrizio Romano

West Ham United striker Michail Antonio has signed a new contract until 2024, with the option of a further year.

Antonio, 31, has scored 55 goals for the club since signing from Nottingham Forest in 2015.

He has been in particularly fine form as of late, scoring 10 Premier League goals in the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons, with a further nine this campaign.

Former manager David Moyes said: “We’ve extended one or two contracts behind the scenes.

“We did Michail’s contract about two months ago, but we’ve also done another couple of players.

“We’ve gone about our business quietly, trying to do things behind the scenes and trying to do things correctly.”

How significant is this for West Ham?

Tying down Antonio is a significant moment for West Ham.

The striker has become the club’s talisman under Moyes. Securing his future is essential if the club are to continue progressing in a forward direction.

Extending until 2024 means West Ham fans will see Antonio remain in east London for his prime years — he will be 34 when this deal expires.

How has Antonio done this season?

The Jamaica international has been in great form for West Ham as they have made a real push for the Champions League places yet again.

Only Jamie Vardy, Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah have scored more than his eight Premier League goals so far this season, with Antonio also contributing five assists.

Despite a mini goal drought in recent weeks, Antonio returned to scoring form against Southampton, and has since helped steer his club to back-to-back away wins over Watford and Crystal Palace.
