Atletico Madrid star to become Manchester United’s first Mozambican player in Premier League history.

Reinildo Mandava, a left-back for Atletico Madrid, is reportedly a target for Manchester United during the summer transfer window.

After losing Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia to long-term injuries this season,

the Red Devils are in a frantic attempt to expand their alternatives at the position,

and they have their sights set on the international player from Mozambique.

But, Aston Villa and Juventus will compete with them for Reinildo’s services,

and other suitors may enter the race as he is expected to be available for a low price this summer.

With just one year left on his Atletico Madrid deal, the 30-year-old may be available for about £8 million.

After suffering a cruciate ligament tear in February 2023,

which kept him out of action until last November,

he no longer starts for the La Liga team, having only made 15 appearances overall.

Because of this, he might find a transfer elsewhere enticing, and joining Man United might be alluring.

Although he may only be a short-term addition,

Reinildo can prove to be a valuable addition to the Red Devils’ backline by bringing much-needed experience and skill to the table.

Before joining Atletico in the summer of 2022, he won the French Super Cup and the Ligue 1 title with Lille in 2020–2021; despite finishing the season with no goals and no assists,

he was named to the Ligue 1 Team of the Year for his valiant defense.

Even though Reinildo does not provide much offensively,

his strong defensive capabilities more than make up for it;

among his best traits are his tackling and interception abilities.

In one-on-one scenarios, he is also difficult to beat and has good ball-holding skills.

Reinildo would create history if he moved to Man United or Villa—he would be the first player from his nation to play in the Premier League—but it’s unclear if that will happen in the upcoming months.
