In light of the current managerial disaster,

Sunderland and its owner, Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, have been instructed to “start acting like a big club.”

Sunderland still doesn’t have a manager after Michael Beale left on February 19.

Despite having over four months to find a replacement, Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and the Black Cats don’t appear to be close to signing a new manager.

Early in June, the owner of Sunderland, who is being investigated more and more along with sporting director Kristjaan Speakman, stated that an appointment was going to happen.

Ever then, long-term target Will Still took over at RC Lens, while Liam Rosenior later withdrew from consideration to be Sunderland’s next manager.

As a result, the Black Cats are left without a certain winner for the position. However, it’s reported that Sunderland is interested in QPR manager Marti Cifuentes,

who would demand a six-figure transfer fee.

Cifuentes joined QPR in the middle of the 2023–2024 season. After joining the Spanish team, the Swedish Allsvenskan team Hammarby,

led the R’s to an 18th-place finish in the Championship.

Sunderland urged to pay compensation for QPR manager Marti Cifuentes

It was previously disclosed that Still’s compensation fee from Remis was not paid by Sunderland or Louis-Dreyfus.

According to reports, Sunderland and any other team wishing to sign Still from Reims would have had to provide compensation over £4 million.

Cifuentes, who is purportedly under contract at QPR until 2027, would just need a six-figure payment, according to reports.

The precise amount is unknown. However, Sunderland has now been encouraged by columnist Alan Nixon to “start acting like a big club” and cover Cifuentes’ compensation cost.

Kyril Louis-Dreyfus may need to break the Sunderland mould

There have undoubtedly been worse days for Sunderland in recent memory.

The team played in League One for four years and has also gone through some very trying financial difficulties.

The current situation is far more optimistic. However,

all of the hard work done over the past few years by Louis-Dreyfus and Speakman could be undone by the continued uncertainty around the next management.

Sunderland’s most recent accounts demonstrate that Louis-Dreyfus has undoubtedly improved the team’s financial stability.

The playing roster has some extremely significant assets for the club, albeit some, like Jack Clarke, are expected to go this summer.

However, Louis-Dreyfus might have to bite the bullet at this point and reach into his pocket for Cifuentes.

In comparison to what Still was at Reims, this is a far more affordable option. Cifuentes has only managed 33 appearances with QPR, but he still has a strong Championship record.

Additionally, it appears that Sunderland supporters would embrace the appointment,

which Louis-Dreyfus will be hoping to see with this next choice in the wake of the Beale scandal.

As Nixon points out, Sunderland is a large club, and in the upcoming days and weeks, they must behave as such.
