Arsenal could lose out on midfield sensation to arch rivals Tottenham Hotspur once the summer transfer window opens

Arsenal could miss out on a former priority transfer target, Everton midfielder Amadou Onana,

with Tottenham Hotspur reportedly ‘gravitating’ towards the Toffees star.

The Gunners have a new striker, new left-back and new midfielder on their summer 2024 wish-list and

the 22-year-old Belgian international had been the number one option to fill the latter role.

However, as the Emirates club begin to turn their attentions towards Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi and

Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz, it would appear Spurs have swooped in on the Senegalese-born footballer.

According to journalist Ignazio Genuardi, via SportWitness,

the Gunners remain ‘strongly interested’ in the Belgian midfielder who was set to replace

the reportedly departing Thomas Partey, but the club could be facing familiar competition for his signature.

Onana has supposedly been hopeful of moving away from Goodison Park for several months,

with reports across Europe suggesting he has picked up interest from Spain, Germany and within top Premier League clubs.

For months, Onana has been speculating about leaving Everton, and he is rumored to have suitors in England,

Germany, and Spain.

With a peak speed of 36.65 km/h, the midfielder has been fueling the rumors.

He recently admitted that he plans to use the next European Championship to show potential suitors just how good he can play.

There is still no indication from either the Gunners or Spurs as to whether they would be willing to pay

the £50–60 million that Everton has previously claimed they would only be willing to let go of their star midfield player.

Financial Fair Play requirements are not expected to have any impact on either party,

in contrast to Onana’s present team, who are hoping to close a significant deal by the deadline of June 30.

It is unclear, though, whether either of the north London teams will be willing to provide the necessary money because they are both eager to add players to other areas of their squads.

Onana left Lille in 2022 to join Everton for a rumored £33 million (plus add-ons). Since then, he has made 63 Premier League appearances for the team, helping them to avoid relegation in the last two seasons. He will soon be heading to Germany for the upcoming Euros 2024, where he hopes to add to his 13 Belgium caps.
