Latest Southampton transfer news including Che Adams, Ryan Fraser, Bundesliga star & more
In preparation for a return to the Premier League, manager Russell Martin will
have determined the squad’s critical areas of improvement this summer.
Taylor Harwood-Bellis is the only confirmed signing to date; the defender
will join permanently upon promotion being secured in accordance with the terms of
his loan deal from Manchester City. Southampton already knows they will
be without Stuart Armstrong, as the 32-year-old is confirmed to be leaving
upon the expiration of his contract this summer. Goalkeeper
Alex McCarthy could join him, as talks are ongoing to keep the former
England stopper beyond this summer.
Che Adams Southampton contract latest
It has widely been assumed the striker would move on given he has had the
offer of a new deal on the table for much of the season and has been in
talks with Wolves and Nottingham Forest, but the player is yet to make his decision.
Journalist Alan Nixon suggested there is unlikely to be an update on
the 27-year-old’s future until after this summer’s European
Championships given Adams’ involvement for Scotland.
A departure still seems most likely but there is a slim chance the
forward signs new terms at St Mary’s.
Che Adams’ Southampton contract is scheduled to expire this summer,
similar to that of Armstrong and McCarthy.
Given that he has been in negotiations with Wolves and
Nottingham Forest for the majority of the season and that a new
contract has been on the table, it was widely expected that the striker would move on,
but he has not yet made a choice.
Given Adams’ involvement for Scotland, journalist Alan
Nixon speculated that there won’t likely be an update on
the 27-year-old’s future until after this summer’s European Championships.
Though there is a remote chance the forward inks a new contract with
St. Mary’s, a departure still seems most plausible.
Ryan Fraser to Southampton ‘deal agreed’
Ryan Fraser and Southampton allegedly have a “deal agreed” to make
the winger’s loan move permanent this summer, according to reports earlier
this week.
Even if Fraser and the South Coast Club may have reached an agreement,
it wouldn’t matter if his parent club forbade him from leaving.
According to the most recent sources, Newcastle United is reportedly
trying to work out a pay-off with the 30-year-old to let him leave the
team early in order to transfer to Southampton.
This would imply that the Saints have an easy way to bring in valuable
experience before the next campaign begins, and they won’t have to pay
any transfer fees.
Southampton eye double European swoop
In terms of new players, Southampton has been connected to deals involving two players who are presently based in Europe.
Leonardo Bittencourt, a versatile midfielder for Werder Bremen, is reportedly attracting interest from Southampton. The director of the German team has recently stated that he would “immediately consider an appropriate offer” and that the team is “always willing to negotiate.”
This might be the motivation Southampton needs to submit a bid for a player who has made 260 appearances in the Bundesliga.
A deal for PAOK goalkeeper Dominik Kostarki is reportedly being considered by the Saints as well, given McCarthy’s uncertain future and the fact that first-choice Gavin Bazunu is expected to be sidelined for an extended period of time due to injury.
The 24-year-old is rumored to be available for a fee of approximately £8.5 million, having just had an incredible year in which he helped his side win the Greek championship.
Southampton may need to act swiftly if they decide to pursue their interest because they may encounter opposition from Parma and Inter Milan in Italy.
Southampton keen on 18-year-old Argentinian gem
Southampton has no intention of departing from their recruitment strategy, which entails signing young players and giving them a route to the first team.
This is demonstrated by the fact that the team is supposedly in “ongoing” negotiations to sign 18-year-old striker Jeronimo Domina with Union Santa Fe, an Argentine club.
The Southampton recruitment team’s intentions for the first team are unlikely to be affected by any deal for Domina, as the attacker is anticipated to first train with the club’s under-21 squad if he signs.
