The former Italy midfielder, who throughout his playing career represented teams like Barcelona,

Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan, and Atletico Madrid, has signed a three-year contract with the Bianconeri that runs through the end of the 2026–2027 campaign.

Motta takes over for the incredibly successful Allegri, who won 12 titles in two different stints in

Turin, including the Coppa Italia trophy in 2023–24 after defeating Atalanta BC 1-0 in the final.

The 56-year-old Allegri, who was sent off during the final, is said to have verbally threatened

officials and ignored sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli, casting a shadow over Juventus’ title celebrations.

Just a few days later, Juventus, who had been expected to fire Allegri for some time anyhow, officially announced the Italian’s dismissal, citing “certain behaviours” during the final that were “deemed incompatible” with the club’s ideals.

Motta vows to “keep the Juventus flag flying high

After Allegri was fired, Juventus stepped up talks with Motta, and Bologna announced before their

last game of the Serie A season that the former midfield player would be leaving the team this

summer. Now, Motta has been officially named the new head coach of the Bianconeri following an incredible season at Dall’Ara, where he led Bologna into the Champions League with a fifth-place

Serie A finish. Bologna’s ranking was just two places and three points lower than Juventus’s, and

thanks to Italy’s UEFA coefficient, their ranking was good enough to qualify for the Champions League.

“I’m incredibly excited to start a new chapter as the manager of a fantastic team like Juventus. Motta said on the official Juventus website, “I thank the owners and the management, who can be sure of my ambition to keep the Juventus flag flying high and to please the fans.”

Prior to his fruitful two years at Bologna, when he guided the team to 35 wins from 76 games, the 41-year-old had managed Spezia and Genoa.
