Coventry City look to have signed Marko Stamenic, with Red Star Belgrade manager Nenad Milijas wishing him well with the Sky Blues.

Coventry City have spent wisely over the last two transfer windows,

with eye-catching sales of Viktor Gyokeres and Gustavo Hamer supporting significant investment in the playing squad.

While purchases may not be as lucrative this year,

the Sky Blues are nonetheless expected to spend as they seek to re-enter the Championship promotion scenario.

The window does not open until Friday, but there has already been plenty of chatter about potential acquisitions.

Marko Stamenic has been widely linked, and a transfer appears to be in the works.

Speaking to Serbian news site Zurnal (quotes via Coventry Live),

Red Star Belgrade manager Nenad Milijas has spoken freely about Stamenic’s move to Coventry City, implying that the transfer is complete.

He encouraged the New Zealand international to settle quickly and succeed in the Championship, saying:

“Stamenic is a talented player who performed well at the start and finish of his time at the Maracana.

I hope he performs well in Coventry.

“Marko is not from our climate, and I believe he will adjust soon.

I mean the language; his mother tongue is English, which is why he is fully prepared.

“Marko is well-prepared, even for a tough league like the Championship.”

He will have no issues meeting the physical criteria,

and the rest will be handled by club personnel so that he can start playing well for Coventry from the first game.”

Time will tell.

It’s worth noting that local publication Coventry Live has been slightly more restrained in their coverage of the rumoured Stamenic chase.

They indicated that Coventry City has a strong interest in him, but they never stated that a deal has been completed.

However, that energy stems from the selling side of the transaction. According to reports in Serbia,

an agreement was struck, and now the Red Star boss has openly suggested he’ll be heading to the CBS Arena.

With the transfer market starting on Friday, it may not be long before the Championship club confirms the signing of Stamenic.

Regardless, it appears that he is expected to succeed on these shores, and a move away from the Serbian club awaits the midfielder.

Midfielders needed.

Coventry City will aim to strengthen their midfield this summer, so Stamenic’s arrival will be welcomed if he joins the club.

The long-serving fan favourite officially departs for Rotherham United at the conclusion of his contract,

and Ben Sheaf has been extensively linked with a move to the Premier League.

If he goes elsewhere, Mark Robins will be left with Josh Eccles, Victor Torp, and Jamie Allen as  options in the middle.

Youngsters Ryan Howley and Kai Andrews have been in and around the first-team, but reinforcements are sure to be eyed.

The signing of Stamenic would be a significant one, but it remains to be seen whether a deal is completed.
