EFL News: Sunderland tranfers, Head Coach and Managerial Controversy Sunderland could well be looking at one more unnamed contender for their managerial vacancy, according to the Sunderland Echo.

They’ve been looking for a new manager for more than a month, but it’s still unclear who would be Michael Beale’s long-term replacement.

Liam Rosenior, who interviewed this week, was one of the leading candidates to take Sunderland’s vacant shoes.

The former Hull City manager, nevertheless, has declared himself out of the running and has declined to participate in a second interview.

Another possibility is Marti Cifuentes, but Sunderland would need to give him a large payment to remove him from QPR.

There was probably one more candidate for the position at the beginning of the week, whose identity has not yet been made public, according to rumors.

It’s possible that Sunderland is investigating a different manager who hasn’t been announced for the position at the Stadium of Light.

Though he is a candidate to manage Burnley going forward, Rosenior has doubts about taking the Sunderland position. He hasn’t been totally ruled out however.

Rene Maric of Bayern Munich was a target for Sunderland, but he will now be a member of Vincent Kompany’s backroom staff.
