Former No. 1 in the world Andy Roddick thinks that current Roland Garros champion Carlos Alcaraz commits more errors than excellent Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer because of his aggressive playing style.

The retired American spoke about Alcaraz’s capacity for powerful shots in the most recent episode of his Served with Andy Roddick Podcast, drawing comparisons to Roger Federer’s early-career play style.

Roddick did concede, though, that Alcaraz’s poor execution often leaves him with more unforced errors than Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic.

“[Carlos] Alcaraz is like this insane thing to watch because he has all the shots and he can do everything, but he always takes his shot,” said Roddick.

“With Roger [Federer], you always felt like you were playing on his terms, especially later in his career when he had lost maybe half a step, it was on his terms.”

Alcaraz continues to commit far more unintentional mistakes than the best Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic combined. However, he is mostly to blame for the mistakes.

He is making an effort. Even though he might wildly miss a forehand, you’re thinking, “That was probably the right shot.” He simply failed to see it.”
