Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers could utilise the next summer transfer window,

which opens on Friday, to enhance his playing team in the coming weeks and months.

Despite seeing his team win two trophies in the 2023/24 season, the former Leicester City manager may look to add more quality to his squad.

Rodgers won the Scottish Premiership and the SFA Cup in his first year back at Parkhead, replacing Ange Postecoglou last summer.

However, the Northern Irish manager may want to pursue even more titles

next season and is apparently looking for a centre-back to supplement his defensive options.

Celtic’s interest in the Austrian colossus

According to Sky Germany writer Florian Plettenberg, the Scottish giants have a “concrete” interest in Salernitana central defender Flavius Daniliuc,

who has two years remaining on his contract with the Italian club.

The journalist reports that the Hoops are interested in bringing the 23-year-old colossus to Glasgow during the summer transfer window,

but does not specify how much the club would pay to complete the trade.

Plettenberg adds, however, that Austrian club RB Salzburg would prefer to keep the young titan after he spent the 2023/24 season on loan in his own country.

This implies that the Bhoys are likely to encounter competition in the hunt to sign the Serie A enforcer in the coming weeks and months.

However, Celtic’s interest in signing Daniliuc should be terrible news for current Hoops centre-back Maik Nawrocki ahead of next season.

This is awful news for Maik Nawrocki.

Rodgers swooped to recruit the Polish defender from Legia Warsaw for a whopping £4 million last summer, but he had a rough debut season in Glasgow.

The 23-year-old made only ten Premier League appearances this season and was an unused replacement in nine more,

as Liam Scales and Cameron Carter-Vickers were chosen in the heart of the defence.

23/24 season Maik Nawrocki (Premiership) Flavius Daniluic (Bundesliga)
Appearances 10 11
Tackles per game 1.2 1.5
Interceptions per game 0.8 1.4
Ball recoveries per game 2.3 4.7
Duel success rate 57% 52%

As shown in the table above, Daniluic beat Nawrocki in a number of crucial defensive categories this season,

while playing on loan for RB Salzburg in the second part of the campaign.

These statistics indicate that the 6 foot 2 star, who was previously labelled a “Rolls Royce” by U23 scout Antonio Mango,

has the potential to come in and give more than the present Hoops defence by making more interventions to stop opposing assaults each game.

Regardless of whether Daniluic would be an upgrade on Nawrocki or not,

this revelation should still bother the Polish titan since it implies that Rodgers wants to enhance the quality of his alternatives in his position,

which is concerning when you consider that he only played ten league games amongst the current crop.

The former Legia star’s playing time might be reduced further next season if the manager gets his way and adds a new centre-back to the squad,

leaving the 23-year-old to evaluate his short and long-term future at Parkhead.
