Alvarez helped the Citizens win the Premier League in May for the fourth time in their history.

In 36 league games—31 of which were starts—he managed to score 11 goals and dish out nine assists.

Despite missing a portion of the season due to injury, Erling Haaland’s appearances for Argentina

show that Pep Guardiola values him highly in his squad.

Alvarez’s inclusion was a significant improvement over the previous campaign, in which the

24-year-old mostly played off the bench and made just 13 Premier League starts.

Despite missing just two Premier League games this season, a rumour from Spain yesterday claimed

that Alvarez was considering quitting Man City in order to play more.

According to the same report, Atletico Madrid is “confident that its sporting project can seduce”

Alvarez, and the La Liga team has “great desire” for him in the summer transfer window.

Alvarez’s future has now been updated by a new source, originating from Spain as well, indicating

that the Argentinean is “very likely” to depart the Eithad Stadium this summer.

The World Cup champion does, however, want to transfer to a European team that is “bigger than” Atletico Madrid, though the source doesn’t specify which teams he would be content to join.

In order to maintain their current level of play in preparation for another title attempt the following season, Man City will probably need to add players this summer. Bruno Guimaraes, a midfielder for Newcastle United, is reportedly a target.
