Leeds United still interested in signing West Ham full-back Ben Johnson

West Ham center back Leeds was interested in Ben Johnson during the January transfer window; he had six months remaining on his contract at the time.

In the end, Leeds turned on Burnley’s Connor Roberts to get them through, but according to The Athletic, the Whites are still interested in the West Ham defender.

Johnson’s contract expires in the summer, therefore Leeds or the other interested parties, Crystal Palace and Rangers, may sign him for free.

The Athletic also mentions in the same article that West Ham is making a lot of effort to retain Johnson with the team past this summer, in addition to conveying Leeds’ interest.

They claim that the 24-year-old has been offered a better contract that would keep him committed for an additional five years.

Johnson is reportedly weighing his options after turning down every offer that had come along before this one.

The sticking point for Johnson and West Ham appears to be assurances over playing time, with other options on both sides of the Irons’ back four preferred over him.
