It’s known that Rosenior spoke with the Black Cats’ executives, and more meetings are currently scheduled.

The 39-year-old hasn’t had a job since his unexpected termination from Hull at the beginning of summer.

Although Birmingham City had him on their short list to succeed former Sunderland manager Tony Mowbray, he was eager to wait for a chance to play in the Championship. After leading Hull to a

seventh-place result in the previous season, he was nominated for Championship Manager of the Year.

Sunderland set for further head coach talks but face fresh Liam Rosenior competition

When Rosenior became available early last month, Sunderland was already well into its hunt for a

new head coach; but, after negotiations went down with several contenders, the former Derby manager became a target.

Although other possibilities are still being evaluated, bookies currently have Rosenior as their clear choice.

But Burnley, who are searching for a new head coach after Vincent Kompany left for Bayern Munich,

is also considering him.

After carefully weighing their alternatives, the Clarets are reportedly prepared to begin the interview process. Scott Parker and Frank Lampard are the two candidates vying for leadership at Turf Moor,

but Burnley is also reportedly interested in Rosenior.

Rene Maric is anticipated to join former Burnley manager Kompany’s coaching staff at Bayern. Since

the beginning of the search for Michael Beale’s replacement, Sunderland has been considering Maric, who is presently in charge of Bayern’s Under-19 team. However, it appears that the 31-year-old will remain in Munich.

Another head coach that Sunderland is considering is Marti Cifuentes, although the Black Cats would need to offer compensation to entice the Spaniard away from QPR, where he made an impression after taking over in October of last year.

Sunderland had a conversation with Pascal Jansen, but the former AZ manager was declared ineligible over the weekend, and it now appears that he will take over at Ferencváros, Hungary.
