Celtic announce double-signing while also confirming double exit

The Celtic FC Women’s side have announced the signing of Signe and Mathilde Carstens, while also confirming the departure of Shen Mengyu and Shen Menglu.

Signe and Mathilde Carstens, twin sisters, join the team from Fortuna Hjorring in Denmark.

Mathilde’s “direct and technical skill” in the closing third and Signe’s ability to contribute in central sections of the pitch are highlighted on the official Celtic website.

The 22-year-olds Signe and Mathilde,

who played for Fortuna Hjorring in their 2021 last-16 match against Barcelona,

bring expertise from the UEFA Women’s Champions League to Glasgow as Elena Sadiku’s team prepares for the next campaign in European competition.

Head coach Sadiku commented on Celtic FC Women’s double swoop,

saying on the team’s official website: “I’m thrilled that Mathilde and Signe decided to join Celtic.

It demonstrates unequivocally that players overseas share our vision and our goals for the next few seasons.

“Signe is a great player with exceptional in-game understanding and technical ability on the ball,

while Mathilde, with her outstanding dribbling ability, will enhance our game with both assists and goals.”

The Celtic FC Women’s team also welcomed two new players,

but they also announced the departure of two players that helped the team win cups in the past few years and the current SWPL.

Prior to the 2024–2025 season, Shen Mengyu and Shen Menglu will both depart from Celtic FC Women.

The news of their departure was shared on social media by the team.

As to a statement on X (formerly Twitter), “We can confirm that Shen Mengyu has left the Club,

” “[Shen] leaves after helping Celtic FC Women have an incredibly successful period of time,

helping us win two Scottish Cups, an SWPL Cup, and our first-ever SWPL title.

Regards and best of luck in your professional journey

Shen.”We can also confirm Shen Menglu’s departure from the Club after two years,

” stated a different tweet. Lu arrived in 2022 and helped us win our first-ever SWPL title as well as the Scottish Cup. Lu, thank you, and best of luck with your further endeavors!”
