Celtic forward Oh Hyeon-gyu has been linked with a move to Belgian Pro League side Genk.

The Daily Record claims that the South Korean forward may soon be heading to the continent,

having missed a significant portion of the 2023–24 Scottish Premiership season due to injury.

Oh scored five goals in the previous season; his final two came in the 4-1 victory over Hibs in December,

when the 23-year-old played for 63 minutes and scored twice.

After joining Celtic in the summer of 2022 under former manager Ange Postecolgou,

Oh made further appearances in the 2022–2023 season,

scoring seven goals across all competitions, increasing his total number of goals for Celtic to twelve.

Adam Idah, a Norwich City loanee, looked to pass Oh in the pecking order,

with the former scoring Celtic’s Scottish Cup-winning goal against Rangers on May 25 before heading back to his parent club.

Kyogo Furuhashi has been leading the line for Celtic for the majority of the past few years.

It’s unclear if Genk would be interested in signing Oh to a long-term contract or just on a loan basis if that were the case.

Alan Morrison, the stats man at The Celtic Way, made several comparisons between Oh and Idah last month.

Here is the introduction to that piece as a taster before you click the above link to read it in its entirety:

“Such reckless abandon is required as the season is coming to an end and the amount of available minutes is decreasing. More specifically,

it seems unlikely that Adam Idah will have accrued the required 900 minutes by the end of the season given the rumors in the media regarding the anticipated expense of signing him on a full-time basis.

I therefore wish to compare the Irish striker to the object of my comparison.

However, Oh Hyun-Gyu (do you remember him? ),

whom Idah has essentially replaced, will be the focus of that contrast.
