Sunderland have joined one of Spain’s biggest clubs in their pursuit of a former Chelsea starlet.

After finding it extremely difficult to create opportunities or score goals the previous season,

Sunderland is in serious need of some attacking reinforcements this summer.

Jack Clarke will probably be sent to the Premier League, but the team and supporters shouldn’t hold too much

optimism due to the performances of Patrick Roberts and Abdoullah Ba.

Although fans would want to see the team invest in more seasoned players,

it seems that the club will always have a soft spot for young players.

Esport Base Media reports that Sunderland has now entered the competition to sign Declan Frith,

a 22-year-old winger for Valencia.

Frith hasn’t played a minute of senior football, despite being older than several Sunderland players.

The “excellent” English player rose through the ranks of Aston Villa’s and Chelsea’s academies,

where he helped the latter’s U23 team score eight goals and provide seven assists.

After being freed in the summer of last year, he joined Valencia’s reserve team three months later.

Although Frith started out as a left-back, he has already played much of his young career higher up the field.

Despite only starting two games and scoring once in his 14 outings for Valencia CF Mestalla this season,

he has made an impact.

Declan Frith is being chased by Sunderland

There is a lot of interest in signing Frith despite his lack of playing time.

With Frith’s contract expiring at the end of the month, Sunderland is the newest team to enter the battle for him.

Watford and “a few” other Championship teams are interested in the talent, but Atletico Madrid and Getafe are also

vying for their services.

While Madrid would want to add him to their B team, it is thought that the latter are winning the battle to recruit

him and believe he is ready to be included in the first squad.

According to the article, Frith would choose to remain in Valencia despite strong interest.

The Spanish company is debating whether to renew his contract because doing so would require them to pay him twice as much.
