BREAKING NEWS: Malon Pack finally makes a ‘new’ career decision on leaving Portsmouth this summer

Portsmouth captain Marlon Pack has agreed terms on a new contract at Fratton Park,

Jordan Cross’ report [31 May] details that a new deal has been agreed between the skipper and his hometown club,

after Pack led the side to the Championship as League One champions.

The 33-year-old – whose new deal is likely to be a 12-month extension – swept the

club’s Player of the Season awards in 2023-24 with 39 appearances in all competitions.

The report notes: “Pack will now lead John Mousinho’s side into the Championship next season,

with negotiations reaching a successful conclusion.

“It’s a boost for Mousinho, ahead of what is set to be a busy summer of squad reshaping for Pompey’s return

to the second tier.”

Marlon Pack continues to lead Portsmouth

The news that Pack will be staying at Portsmouth will be music to the ears of the fans he represents.

Pompey would not have earned promotion without the former enforcer for Bristol City and Cardiff City,

who is described in the report as the Blues’ “on-field lieutenant” and

who adds a valuable wealth of Championship experience to John Mousinho’s team.

Full-back and pack Fratton Park’s regard for out-of-contract Portsmouth first-team players is evident

in the fact that Connor Ogilvie was the only one to get an offer for a new contract.

Ogilvie’s discussions will be interesting to watch,

but it’s quite likely that the 28-year-old will remain on the South Coast to start his debut season at the Championship level.

There is also thought to be an avenue through which Pack could become part of Pompey’s footballing staff when he does hang up his boots – but for now, Pompey have got their captain and leader secured in their most exciting season in the current era.
