Throughout the 2023–24 campaign, the Magpies nearly never finished in the top four and ultimately placed seventh.

In order to increase their own prospects of making it into the UEFA Champions League, Newcastle United will be

hoping that their fellow Premier League rivals have a strong season in Europe the following year.

The Champions League will no longer feature a group stage for the competition’s opening round, according to an announcement made by UEFA. For the 2024–2025 season, a new “Switzerland League” system will be used, in

which teams will play eight matches as opposed to six home and away.

After finishing in the top four this season, Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Aston Villa all locked up their

spots; Tottenham Hotspur, on the other hand, just missed out due to England’s dismal results in the European

rankings for coefficients.

Tottenham thus lost to Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley, and it appeared as though Newcastle

United would secure a position in the UEFA Conference League. As a result, Spurs were promoted to the UEFA

Europa League.

However, given their success in European competitions, the Magpies will be hoping that their fellow English clubs

can do them a favor by earning a fifth slot in the UEFA Champions League next season. Real Madrid and Bayern

Munich, respectively, defeated Manchester City and Arsenal, who both lost badly in the quarterfinals.

As a result of Fiorentina and Borussia Dortmund’s respective results, Italy and Germany were given an extra spot

apiece; overall, Brest of France also benefited, earning them a further berth.

The champions’ qualifying road, which will have five teams instead of four next season, will be used to determine who

gets the final berth. This club will be selected following four qualifying rounds; the decision has not yet been made.
