Atletico Madrid defender is close to joining Antonio Conte’s revolution at Napoli.

Mario Hermoso’s departure from Atletico Madrid is already set in stone;

his contract expires on June 30.

Diego Simeone is devastated by the ever-present defender’s departure,

and plans are already in place to find a replacement.

The 28-year-old is getting closer to choosing his next team in the interim.

DAZN Italy reports that Napoli and Hermoso are in advanced talks.

The Serie A champions for 2022–23, who appointed Antonio Conte as their new manager earlier this month, are reportedly optimistic about reaching a deal as soon as next week.

Hermoso has been linked to a number of teams recently,

including Aston Villa and Inter Milan, but it looks like Naples will be his permanent home starting this summer.

A significant win for Conte, but a greater setback for Simeone and Atleti.

Who Atletico Madrid is able to add to strengthen their defense—which was remarkably weak in the last campaign—remains to be seen.

Their main goal is Robin Le Normand of Real Sociedad,

but it’s unclear if they will be able to pay a transfer fee for the Spain international.
