Newcastle and Arsenal have reached a £16 million deal for a goalkeeper; the two teams are currently in negotiations.

With a bid of about £16 million, Newcastle has made a play for Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford.

According to Mail Sport, discussions between the teams this week focused on a package that the Magpies offered. There are still talks going on, and the Championship team is aiming for more like £20 million.

Trafford was among the six individuals who experienced the heartbreaking loss of being excluded from England’s Euro 2024 roster this week. But now that he has more time, he can focus on his club career, and he knows Newcastle is interested. The 21-year-old has also being monitored by Bayern Munich, Chelsea, and Liverpool.

The former Manchester City prospect is highly regarded by Eddie Howe, and Newcastle views him as a rival for No. 1 Nick Pope.

According to Mail Sport, Newcastle was turned off by Arsenal’s appraisal of Aaron Ramsdale and instead focused on Trafford last month.

With fewer games played, losing out on European football is a setback in their quest to find a new goalie. Newcastle is still hoping to convince Trafford that St. James’ Park is the greatest location for his long-term growth, though.
