Owner of the Mavericks, Mark Cuban, opened up about his interaction with Dirk Nowitzki. During an interview with Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso, Cuban mentioned that he didn’t realize how exceptional Dirk was during his peak years.

However, he pledged to avoid repeating the same error with Luka Doncic. He also commended the players’ hearts, as well as the Mavericks team.

The unceasing genius that is Luka. I don’t think I enjoyed watching Dirk to its fullest. I promise not to repeat that error. Of course, I also adore the Mavs as a team. Our resolve. Our disposition.”

It’s obvious that Cuban admires and respects what Dirk Nowitzki accomplished for his team. The greatest legend in Mavericks history is without a doubt Nowitzki, who helped the team defeat the Heat’s big three in 2011 to win their one and only (for the time being) NBA championship.

With an incredible average of 26.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 2.0 assists throughout the series, Dirk helped the Mavs win in six games. Being the best player for the Mavericks, Nowitzki was awarded the MVP title for the Finals based on his efforts.

As he and the Mavericks take on the Celtics in the NBA Finals, Luka Doncic is currently trying to emulate Dirk’s feat. Similar to Dirk’s team, Luka and the Mavs are the underdogs and have lost 1-0 to the Celtics.

Even though the Mavericks lost Game 1 against the Celtics, Luka Doncic played a fantastic game. In the losing effort, he recorded 30 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals.

Luka offered some reflections on the team’s Game 1 defeat, saying that they should regroup, prepare for Game 2, and try not to let this defeat get to them.

They don’t send much aid, so they primarily play one-on-one, which is why… They have lots of shooters and excellent spacing. Therefore, I believe we need to remove those threes more effectively.”

“You either win or lose. first to four. We must concentrate on the upcoming game. Just pay attention to the next match. We got some really good images, I believe.

We just failed to produce them. However, we must proceed game by game. The first game is finished. We must view the film, learn from our mistakes, and concentrate only on the next one.”

“We were playing basketball at that time. We were forcing stops and preventing them from grabbing offensive rebounds. In those moments, we were enjoying ourselves, and we ought to do that more frequently.”
