Diego stays! Simeone set to become Atletico Madrid’s longest-serving coach ever as he agrees to take pay cut to sign new contract

Simeone’s current Atletico contract expired at the end of the last season. There has been speculation that he could leave the Spanish club, but according to Marca the 53-year-old signed a new deal until 2027.

Even though Simeone is the highest paid club football coach, he has apparently decided to drastically cut his pay in order to allay Atleti’s financial worries. The most successful coach in Rojiblancos history will have served the longest (15 years) in the team’s history if he remains on until 2027.
