Sunderland manager hopes could now be crushed by former Newcastle United boss

Sunderland is still without a manager, and a former Newcastle United manager might yet ruin their most recent

ambitions.

Sunderland supporters are becoming more and more irate with the manager’s inaction and anxious about what could happen in the summer and during the 2024–2025 campaign.

The 2023–24 Black Cats had a dismal season finale. In his 13 games in charge, interim manager Mike Dodds only

managed two victories, and the Black Cats won five league games in 2024.

After losing to Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 at home on the last day of the season, Sunderland ultimately finished in 16th position in the standings.

By the end, Sunderland’s gap from the bottom three was just six points. Though Sunderland’s postseason hasn’t gone

well thus far, owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus realizes that next season will need to be much better.

The 51-year-old Jansen is reportedly being given significant consideration for the open manager position at the

Stadium of Light.

However, reports from Greece indicate that Panathinaikos, who could be able to provide Jansen with a Europa

League spot next season, is also a fan of his.

The Greek powerhouses were interested in Rafa Benitez as well as Maurizio Sarri, but Maurizio Sarri reportedly

rejected their advances.

Panathinaikos appears to have shifted their focus to Benitez and Jansen, with Benitez being the one who was initially

linked, after missing out on Sarri.

In the event that he declines the position as well, Panathinaikos may really put the pressure on Jansen, who may then

have to make a difficult decision regarding his future.
