Kyrie Irving and the Mavericks are clowned after the Celtics’ explosive start to the first game.

The Dallas Mavericks and Kyrie Irving had a rough start to Game 1 of the 2024 NBA Finals as they were immediately outplayed by the Boston Celtics.

Leading the way after a protracted absence in the playoffs was Kristaps Porzingis, the Celtics proved to everyone why they were the early favorites to win an NBA championship and make it all the way to the finals.

Although the Mavericks are by no means an easy opponent for Boston, Dallas appeared out of place on the court against the potent Celtics team that was playing at full tilt during the first quarter.

After the first 12 minutes of the game, Porzingis scored 11 points, pulled down three rebounds, swatted away three shots, and finished the quarter with a plus-16 rating, helping Boston put the Mavs behind the ball by 17 points.

Following the Mavericks’ savage first-quarter performance, Kyrie Irving and Dallas were the targets of what seemed like never-ending taunting. Naturally, Irving has a fascinating past with the Celtics.

Following that intense first quarter, Boston fans—and NBA fans in general—inside TD Garden and on social media let him know what they really think of him and his team.

In the second quarter, the Mavericks looked a little more vibrant as they were only outscored by four points. Dallas eventually got things rolling with 24 points in the third quarter, but Boston answered with 23 points.

Though the Mavericks are still capable of winning, Boston has made it plain from the beginning of the NBA Finals why they are the overwhelming favorites in this series.

Regarding the Celtics, Porzingis’s comeback has provided them a major boost, and he will be closely watched as this series progresses. In the end, he scored 20 points off the bench to lead Boston to a 107-89 victory led by Jaylen Brown, who scored 22 points.
