“£8-£10m” – Eiran Cashin claim made amid potential Derby County bidding war

The Irish defender has been the subject of interest from Premier League sides in the past

Derby County has been out from the Championship for two years, and they are getting ready to return.

Since the end of their last season in the second division,

when they were relegated back to the second division with a heavy 21-point deduction due to

serious and well-documented financial difficulties, the East Midlands team’s situation has undergone significant upheaval.

But over the previously indicated time frame,

we began to witness a number of Rams academy grads make their breakthroughs into the first team,

mostly out of necessity, which also allowed for strong bases for their two League One campaigns.

And it would be a fair assessment to say that one of those homegrown talents has a much higher ceiling than the second tier.

Derby County, Eiran Cashin transfer fee claim made

This is due to the fact that Eiran Cashin, who has now made over 120 competitive outings at Pride Park,

has been one of the star performances under Paul Warne in particular.

The 22-year-old is Derby’s most valuable asset,

and it should come as no surprise that Premier League teams are showing interest in him given his present form and potential,

says our Rams fan pundit Shaun Woodward.

FLW quizzed Woodward on which player within the current squad the club would command the highest fee for, to which he replied: “Hands down, it’s Cashin. I can’t imagine anybody would say anyone else.”

“He’s young, he’s played a great deal of football now in the Championship and League One. He’s got bags of experience, he’s the whole package,” our fan pundit claimed.

“He’s a great ball player, he’s a leader, he’s quicker than he looks, he reads the game amazingly, he sets off most of our attacks from the back, and when he wasn’t playing for a few games, we really missed him.”

“He’s just an absolute beast of a centre-half, and I think if we can get a bidding war going, I think realistically, now we’re back in the Championship, he could be going for £8-£10m,” Woodward stated.

“I know people from other clubs might laugh at that, but you’ve seen some players going for £10-£15m from other Championship teams. There’s no reason why a player like Cashin couldn’t demand that fee if we had clubs bidding for him.”

He concluded: “Obviously, I’d never want him to leave, but I think if we struggle this season or, god forbid, go back down, he needs to move on and I’d definitely be looking at around £8-£10m for him.”

Eiran Cashin’s performances in Derby County’s promotion-winning season

The Republic of Ireland international’s play in the Rams’ promotion season only improved when he was named the team’s Young Player of the Season in 2022–2023; he won the honor for a second consecutive year.

Cashin was a vital component of Derby’s most formidable defense in the previous season’s third division, as the Mansfield-born defender amassed some remarkable defensive stats and posed a threat from offensive set pieces. Throughout their 46 league games, Derby gave up just 37 goals.

He was without a doubt one of the two players from the team, along with Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, to be named to the EFL League One Team of the Season. He has played in the Championship before, having made eighteen appearances for Wayne Rooney two seasons prior.

Derby County’s significant power in any potential Eiran Cashin departure

Cashin has already demonstrated maturity in his three seasons of consistent first-team action, so it wouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone if top division clubs showed interest in him again over the summer.

The good news for Derby supporters is that they have a considerable amount of negotiating power because Cashin signed a new deal in January that will keep him committed to the team through the summer of 2027.

This followed intense interest from Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer of last year, but Roberto De Zerbi’s team was unable to match the £3 million asking price set by the Rams leadership. That price tag included the possibility of a loan-back for Derby during the season that ultimately resulted in promotion.

It remains to be seen whether the Seagulls will revive their interest in Cashin following the Italian’s recent departure, although it seems certain that Cashin will no doubt sign for a Premier League outfit over the course of time.

Therefore, given his fine run of performances since the aforementioned £3m price tag was mooted, it’s extremely justifiable that David Clowes looks to push any potential bidders towards a hard bargain, which could end up reaching Woodward’s suggested figures.
