Conor Gallagher’s future was the subject of an intriguing wave of briefs released last night.

According to multiple sources, Chelsea is reportedly willing to pay £50 million for the midfield player and will

not allow him to leave on a shoestring.

Sami Mokbel sent more information to The Daily Mail today in response to their initial report.

According to him, Chelsea’s asking price is not far from what Aston Villa and Tottenham,

the two leading Premier League rivals, would be willing to pay.

It has already been mentioned from both of those viewpoints.

However, Mokbel adds Atletico Madrid as a fresh and intriguing proposal.

Imagine Conor tearing through Diego Simeone’s midfield; it’s a tremendously entertaining thought and a fantastic fit.

That would be really impressive. Sadly, though, we don’t think it’s even remotely likely.

Even in the best of circumstances, Atletico rarely spends £50 million, and they are currently experiencing

financial difficulties. According to all the reports coming out of Spain,

they will probably have to sell off a few of their higher-paid stars this summer.

Therefore, spending that kind of money on a player who is being paid Premier League salary doesn’t seem like a

wise financial decision.

The Tottenham and Villa connections seem like they will only get stronger over time, even though that one

doesn’t seem very promising. The fact that Gallagher is expected to start for England at the Euros and is likely

to increase in value should further enhance his appeal, but it also lessens the likelihood that he will sign a

contract before this season’s June 30th accounting deadline.
