Fulham plot raid on relegated Premier League club for 22-year-old defender

Teden Mengi, a 22-year-old English defender from Luton Town, is reportedly a target for Fulham during the summer transfer window.

Fulham is reportedly interested in Teden Mengi, according to a report from The Athletic. Following the loss of Tosin Adarabioyo as a free agent, the Cottagers are eager to add a center-back during the summer transfer window. Thus, the 22-year-old defender for Luton Town has become a target for the West London team.

Teden Mengi and his career so far

After leaving Manchester United for Luton Town in the summer of last year, Teden Mengi was able to establish a solid foundation for his professional career. The young player is a Manchester United native who spent his early years playing for the Red Devils, where he was highly regarded by their academy trainers.

But consistent playing time with the first team escaped Mengi, and he had to make do with what he was able to get on loan at Birmingham City FC and Derby County. Despite the fact that the Hatters were unable to avoid relegation from the Premier League, he made the right option by moving to Luton Town last summer.

Mengi played 35 times in all competitions and contributed one goal as a stalwart at the defense for Luton Town. The Englishman was one of the Hatters’ most notable players prior to their elimination from the EFL Championship thanks to his performances. In the meantime, Fulham has taken notice of Mengi’s advancements.

Premier League return on the horizon?

It seems sense that Teden Mengi would pique Fulham’s interest. Tosin Adarabioyo, a free agent who is expected to sign a Bosman deal with Chelsea, is leaving the Cottagers during the summer transfer window. Furthermore, Tim Ream is getting close to the end of his professional career.

Therefore, Fulham has to make a center-back acquisition during the summer transfer window. Trevoh Chalobah is one of the candidates that the West London club is keeping an eye on. Mengi, on the other hand, is also a potential target because he can serve as the defense’s mainstay and long-term solution.

The 22-year-old will unlikely cost a bomb, considering Luton Town’s relegated status. So, it will be interesting to see if Fulham can seal an acceptable deal for the former Manchester United defender in the summer transfer window.
