According to reports, Manchester City is the “most likely” team to activate Bruno Guimaraes’ £100 million release clause from Newcastle United.

Despite not actively seeking to leave St James’ Park, Guimaraes has a release clause that expires at the end of June, which makes his future at Newcastle somewhat questionable.

The Brazilian has long been admired by Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal, and Manchester City.Although PSG has now backed off from a summer transfer, Manchester City and Arsenal are still actively after the 26-year-old.

Ben Jacobs, a transfer specialist, reports that Manchester City has gotten in touch with Guimaraes’ representatives and is thinking about activating his release clause.

The “most likely” destination for Guimaraes, should he decide to leave Newcastle, is listed as the Premier League champions.

Arsenal would have a look at Guimaraes, but not for £100 million, as they had just paid that money for Declan Rice from West Ham United the previous summer.

Jacobs continues Al Hilal, the winners of the Saudi Pro League, have talked about activating the clause that would rank Guimaraes as the tenth-most expensive player ever.

However, the midfield player is content in Newcastle and would not, at this time, go to play for a Saudi Arabian team.

Guimaraes joined Newcastle from Lyon for £40million in 2022 and has gone on to make over 100 appearances for the club, scoring 17 goals.

The Magpies’ failure to secure European qualification despite finishing seventh in the Premier League in 2023-24 will come as a blow to their ability to attract and potentially keep hold of key players heading into the summer transfer window.
