After selecting his rival, Verstappen asserts he is not in need of an outside F1 competitor.

Max Verstappen has emphasized that, despite the increased threat posed by Red Bull’s competitors this season,

he doesn’t need an outside challenge to perform at his peak in Formula 1.

In a dramatic race that came down to the very last lap, Verstappen faced off against seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton in his maiden Formula One title victory.

Verstappen won 34 races in the two seasons before to F1’s introduction to ground effect cars in 2022, and Red Bull went on to become the dominant team.

Though Verstappen led the current season to start with four victories from the first five races,

McLaren and Ferrari have both been able to close the distance and overtake Red Bull.

The Dutchman refuted claims that he had to step up his game because of the heightened competition,

pointing out that every weekend brings a new challenge in terms of extracting the maximum.

At Imola, he remarked, “Well, this is always from the outside,

it seems like there is no challenge.” Every weekend, I set a goal for myself to try to make the most of it.

Since I don’t need another team or driver to provide me with that challenge, it’s never dull for me.

“I always push myself to try to get the most out of situations.

“It’s not like I’m lacking something or that I’m holding out for something to happen so that I can feel suddenly more validated or appreciated for what we are doing.”

Red Bull has been under more pressure in recent races as a result of Ferrari and McLaren’s resurgent competitiveness, and obvious vulnerabilities have started to show.

Verstappen, however, argued that Red Bull should be given credit for making every race better during its record-breaking triumph the previous season in order to take advantage of its competitors’ weaknesses.

“Did we do things correctly, or did others do things incorrectly, or was it the other way around?” Verstappen enquired.

It’s seldom easy to tell, but you should constantly aim to be at the top of your game—which is obviously not always the case.

It’s just not possible to have a flawless weekend every single time; that’s for sure.

However, you constantly strive to approach that perfection as closely as possible.

However, occasionally things go a little better.

“It didn’t really work out that well in Miami, and naturally,

other people get a little closer when they improve and make their cars seem a little more like ours.”
