Negotiations ongoing’ for Nottingham Forest promotion hero

Serie A team Genoa is interested in Nottingham Forest’s Djed Spence, according to Fabrizio Romano.

In fact, according to the transfer expert, the Italian team “has approached Tottenham” about a permanent deal for a player who has only played a supporting role since his arrival.

Only six games have the defender played for Spurs since he arrived in 2022 for an alleged £20 million from Middlesbrough.

He did so following a stellar 2021–2022 season on loan at Forest, when he played a key role in the EFL and PFA Championship teams of the season and assisted Steve Cooper’s club in winning promotion.

But, he was transferred on loan to Ligue 1 team Rennes shortly after joining Tottenham, and the following summer, he was returned to the Championship to play for Leeds United, where he too failed to make an impression.

In January, he moved once more, this time to Genoa, where he enjoyed far more financial success during his 16 appearances while helping the Rossoblù place 11th in the league. Romano states that although it “will depend on the price,” they wish to finish the transfer in its entirety. According to him, talks are still going on between the clubs and Spence’s group.

Spence said to The Athletic earlier this year that playing for the Reds brought out the best in him. “It was me at my best, it was me enjoying football and loving the game,” he said. “It was a great time, and one of the best moments of my career.”
