Lucas Paqueta faces lifetime ban as West Ham United options shared in ‘Huge’ update

Lucas Paqueta faces lifetime ban as West Ham United options shared in ‘Huge’ update

Dan Plumley reports that West Ham star Lucas Paqueta has received a “huge” update regarding his charges pertaining to betting,

which might result in a lifetime ban from sports.

The Hammers playmaker is accused of intentionally booking four different games, and if found guilty,

the FA wants to permanently ban the 26-year-old from the sport, according to The Sun (4 June).

But Plumley, a football finance specialist, notes that this would depend on the specifics of the player’s contract at the London Stadium.

He exclusively told West Ham Zone, “I think it would have to [go down that road].”

“We are unaware of the specifics of the player contracts,

but the club will be aware of the information if you are examining whether there is a breach of contract.

Obviously, there are more ramifications for the individual, but West Ham is currently in the thick of things.

It will depend on the terms of the contract, but if things turn out that way and the suspension is substantial or lifelong,

you’ll need to examine the terms of the contract to see if West Ham has any recourse against the offenses for which he is facing charges.

“A permanent prohibition is significant.

but I don’t think that’s happening right now.

And teams will soon add a condition about the backs of Toney.

Tonali, and now add this one to their contracts if they don’t already have one.

Prior to the opening of the summer transfer window, it was anticipated that Paqueta would

sign an £85 million release clause and head to Manchester City this summer (The Athletic).

Nevertheless, given the FA’s efforts to have him suspended for spot-fixing,

It appears unlikely that the Hammers will have him in their lineup for the duration of the season.

Although their punishments were far less severe than Paqueta’s, Ivan Toney

and Sandro Tonali received extended suspensions for their betting-related offenses last season.

It appears unlikely at this point that Paqueta will escape a ban,

even if they have him for the start of the season while they wait for a hearing to take place.

As a result, the club will need to make plans for life without him for a while.
