Josh Murphy of Oxford is allegedly still a target for Portsmouth, who are hopeful of getting the winger to Fratton Park.

The 29-year-old’s contract is scheduled to end this month,

but he did contribute to Oxford’s promotion from League One by scoring twice against Bolton in the play-off final at Wembley.

The United States has declared that it is in negotiations with Murphy for a new contract;

however, a number of teams, including West Brom, Hull, and Sunderland, have reportedly expressed interest.

Murphy is on Pompey’s shopping list, according to Portsmouth News, our sister publication.

The Blues are hopeful that head coach John Mousinho’s connection to Oxford,

where he played his final game, could facilitate a possible trade.

Following the play-off final last month, Oxford manager Des Buckingham responded to a question concerning

Murphy’s future by saying, “I may have had a chat with him when we were up on the gantry lifting the trophy.”

“We’ll make every effort to keep Josh on staff. He’s a fantastic guy, a skilled player,

and a solid fit for our desired approach. We’ll exert as much effort as we can and follow the results.

Murphy, who agreed to a two-year contract with Oxford in 2022, has acknowledged that,

following a difficult first season at the Kassam Stadium, he nearly quit the team.

But since Buckingham was appointed in November of last year, he has performed admirably,

starting 18 straight League One games, including playoff games.

Murphy, who reportedly cost Cardiff £11 million in 2018, was asked about his current circumstances and said,

“I want to play as high as I can.” I believe I owe it to the club, my family, and myself.

Now that we are in the Championship, let’s see what occurs.

“All I want to do is block out everything.” I just want to have fun because this has been a difficult and lengthy season.
