Report:£7,113,600 flop defender to depart club as new details emerges
Nottingham Forest are right to release flop who earned more than Murillo
Since being promoted back to the Premier League in 2022, Nottingham Forest has undoubtedly had hit and
miss success in their recruitment, with numerous players performing below or above expectations.
That was to be expected, though, as Evangelos Marinakis showed his enthusiasm for the team in their first top-
flight season in 23 years, adding almost 30 new players to the roster.
Players like Murillo, Morgan Gibbs-White, and Callum Hudson-Odoi have all made their way to the City
Ground. Their presence is proof of the hierarchy’s sound business practices, particularly considering that they
were all tipped for big-money deals earlier this summer.
Some have been so unimpressive that they have left Trentside after brief stays, even in spite of their own
achievements in the East Midlands.
After an award-winning season in Brazil, Gustavo Scarpa came to the club with high expectations.
However, he left after just ten games, failing to score or assist on a single goal.
But the team also had one player who just never quite fit in at the Reds, and Nuno Espírito Santo made the right
decision by letting him leave the City Ground this summer.
The Nottingham Forest stats of Cheikhou Kouyate
Cheikhou Kouyate was brought in to give a relatively inexperienced Forest team much-needed Premier League
experience after joining on a free transfer from another Premier League team Crystal Palace in the summer of
2022.
Upon arriving at the City Ground, the 34-year-old struck a two-year contract, intending to play one more season
in the Premier League.
The Senegal international made 21 league appearances in his debut season at the club, starting just seven games
and managing just one goal in 2022–2023 (his only season overall).
He joined the team this season and has made just 12 appearances, assuming a squad role. But he’s discovered
that starts are even more scarce—he’s only had two throughout the 2023–2024 campaign, both of which came
under former head coach Steve Cooper.
The club announced that he will be leaving the Reds at the end of his current contract, which expires at the end
of the month, capping his two-year stay at the City Ground.
