According to a report from The News,

Portsmouth is looking to prevail in the competition for Oxford United winger Josh Murphy this summer.
In an effort to get ready for life in the Championship, Portsmouth is eager to entice the attacker to Fratton Park.

John Mousinho led them to victory in the League One championship this past season.

Murphy, 29, scored a brace in the Wembley final against Bolton Wanderers to help Oxford United win the third-tier play-offs.

But as things stand, he is scheduled to become a free agency when his contract expires at the end of the month.

According to The News’ most recent update on his condition, Pompey has him on their “shopping list”

and “hopes” that Mousinho is acquainted with him.

In order to gain experience, he also had loan stints at MK Dons and Wigan Athletic away from Carrow Road.

The Londoner spent four years at Cardiff City before joining the U’s, spending part of that time with Preston North End.

He departed the Canaries permanently in 2018.

He was signed by Oxford United in 2022, and with the U’s, he has since resumed his career.

Under Des Buckingham’s leadership, he scored 10 goals in all competitions and contributed six assists to help them gain promotion

the previous season. His contract is about to expire, and since he hasn’t signed an extension yet,

he will no longer be available for anything.

Portsmouth’s summer ahead

As Portsmouth looks to capitalize on their success from the previous campaign, they must make the correct hiring decisions.

Murphy’s stock is currently quite high, and he would be great for Mousinho’s team.

He would offer Pompey another option on the wing and additional quality in attacking situations.
