Official:Newcastle United & Everton-linked midfielder set for medical as £5m deal agreed
Newcastle United were among the Premier League clubs tentatively linked with a move for the Aston Villa-bound midfielder.
Ross Barkley’s signing with Aston Villa and Luton Town is apparently finalized.
After rekindling his career with the Hatters, the 30-year-old has been informally linked to a number of Premier
League teams, including Everton and Newcastle United. Barkley was mentioned as a possible England pick
after he finished the previous season with five goals and four assists in 32 Premier League games.
When Gareth Southgate failed to return his call, Luton was demoted from the Premier League. Barkley will,
however, be competing in the Champions League next season thanks to his own improvement in form. Transfer
specialist Fabrizio Romano claims that Barkley will cost Villa £5 million. Barkley is anticipated to finalize the
paperwork at the start of July.
“EXCL: Aston Villa have reached a verbal agreement with Luton Town to sign Ross Barkley,” Romano wrote on
X, the platform that was formerly known as Twitter. Recognize that it will cost about £5 million. The player’s
formal signing and the necessary medical testing are the last steps; the player’s agreement is anticipated at the
start of July. We’re off, soon.”
Although some supporters did think a move for the former Chelsea player would be prudent after he sparkled in
Luton’s 4–4 draw on Tyneside in February, it is believed that Newcastle’s interest in Barkley was never genuine.
After the game, Barkley spoke passionately about the team and St. James’ Park, which won him the admiration
of the supporters. Barkley also scored and collected an assist.
