Middlesbrough’s head coach Michael Carrick has agreed to a three-year extension of his contract.

After taking over as manager of Boro in October 2022,

the 42-year-old former England and Manchester United player guided

the Teesside team to eighth place in the Championship table the previous season.

Additionally, he guided Middlesbrough to the Carabao Cup semifinals.

Carrick had previously been connected to Brighton’s open managerial post as

the Seagulls try to select someone to replace Roberto De Zerbi. Prior to this morning,

Carrick was the fourth favorite behind Graham Potter, Steve Cooper, and Henrik Rydstrom,

but he was one of the top contenders according to the bookies.

Carrick stated on his team’s official website, “I think it’s really important to have that attachment,

that trust, and that belief within the club.”

We definitely have that, and it’s what keeps me feeling as happy as I did when I first walked in the door.

“As a headline and a statement, it feels like a big step, but in reality,

it doesn’t change anything I do or how I approach it; it just continues the goal we have in mind.”
