According to a source, Russell Martin is considering a reunion with the Celtic midfield ace, while Southampton is showing interest in Matt O’Riley.

After guiding Saints back to the Premier League, the former Scotland defender is eager to sign O’Riley, who he managed at MK Dons before to receiving his big break with a move to the Hoops. Numerous teams are after the 23-year-old, and it is anticipated that he will command a transfer fee over £25 million, setting a new Scottish record.

And it might work against Martin since, according to the Scottish Sun, his club is turned off by that price tag. He is interested in trying to arrange a reunion with the player this summer, but he is realistic about his odds of doing so.

Considering that Premier League teams Brighton, West Ham, and Everton have been connected to Atletico Madrid, who had an offer of more than £20 million rejected in January, they may make another attempt. Southampton may be considered, though, as they will need to bolster themselves in order to make a run at the championship.

Having previously bought Stuart Armstrong, Virgil van Dijk, Fraser Forster, and Victor Wanyama from Celtic, they have a thorough understanding of the market. O’Riley was signed by Martin for MK Dons in January 2021, and the two collaborated for six months before to the manager leaving for Swansea City. And shortly after that, O’Riley was moving on with his life after being selected by the Hoops from League One.
