Elland Road’s £15,000-a-week failed trio to leave as management regrets signing them.
Financial pressures mount at Elland Road
As they prepare for another season in the Championship, Leeds United is prepared to make significant roster
changes this summer.
Financial strain increases at Elland Road
Concerns over Elland Road’s finances surfaced after Daniel Farke‘s team lost in the play-off final. As a result,
the team is preparing for a fire sale in an effort to collect over £100 million through player departures before
they can start spending this summer.

The two most likely high-profile departures seem to be Crysencio Summerville and Archie Gray, though Leeds
will be hoping to hang onto the latter. Twelve months after his abortive effort, Wilfried Gnonto has also been
connected to a move away, and Georginio Rutter is also wanted.
Leeds trio set to depart this summer Leeds Live, which broke down the futures of Leeds’ fringe players that
Farke rejected and exposed their likely destinations, is reporting that a number of players may have already
played their final games for the club. Three of them, they claim, are unlikely to play for Leeds ever again. Ian
Poveda, a former Manchester City academy player, “has almost certainly played his last game for Leeds,” as he
failed to show any consistent promise during his time at Elland Road.
Poveda joined Leeds for free in 2020, but following unsuccessful loan stints at Sheffield Wednesday and
Blackpool, the winger’s £8,250-per-week contract will be changed before the new campaign begins.
The report also states that “it would be a major surprise for Farke to offer him another chance before June 30.”
Young defender Cody Drameh, 22, has also failed to live up to expectations. After making just one appearance
for Farke’s team in August, he has spent the season on loan with Birmingham City.
The Dutchman, who like Poveda, will have his contract expire this summer and is not expected to extend it at
£2.5k a week, was unable to stop his team from getting relegated. As a result, it appears “likely” that he will
become a free agent and leave the team.
Lewis Bate, who played midfield for MK Dons in the second half of the season after failing to make an
impression for Leeds senior team, is also expected to leave.

Jamie Shackleton | 15 |
Liam Cooper | 19 |
The former Chelsea player, who is still only 21 years old, “seems to have also played his last game in Leeds
white” after agreeing to three deals that will save Leeds’ salary costs by about £750,000 annually.
Jamie Shackleton, a fullback who has been denied playing time at Elland Road, is another player who “seems
set to depart,” though it is less certain. Club captain Liam Cooper’s future is also up in the air as he approaches
the end of his contract.
Whatever the Scot plans to accomplish, the club will be able to reduce its roster in preparation for another
promotion run next season with the departure of at least three marginal players who Farke has often ignored.
