The transfer trickle is beginning to pour, with a flurry of activity being confirmed throughout the EFL.

At the time of writing, the total number of completed transactions in the three divisions outside of the top flight stood at 37.

They range from clubs announcing loans to Rotherham to SIX new signings under Steve Evans,

including Pompey’s Joe Rafferty and Sean Raggett.

In the Championship, things are calmer, however Stoke have sealed a deal for Millers goalkeeper Viktor Johansson,

Luke Ayling’s loan move from Leeds to Middlesbrough has been extended,

and Coventry have signed Australian winger Raphael Borges Rodrigues.

However, Fratton Park remains peaceful, at least on the surface.

However, behind-the-scenes activity continues,

with a refreshed recruitment department following Brad Wall’s appointment at Manchester City.

However, most Pompey fans now understand that individuals who are concerned about completed agreements do not need to panic.

This time last year, anticipation was building for a seventh season in League One,

with the stakes high for eventually reaching the Championship.

Pompey’s philosophy has been to not disclose transactions until the window opens,

which means that deals cannot be registered until then, as the EFL adopted international transfer laws two years ago.

That day is still just over two weeks away, on June 14, when summer business officially begins and lasts until August 30.

However, there is nothing prohibiting Pompey from secretly recruiting and closing agreements.

The documentation could then be stored securely, registered when the window opens, and announcements made at the club’s discretion.

That’s what happened a year ago, when the transfer drought gave way to an oasis of recruitment activity,

with agreements being finalised in short succession.

Will Norris’ opening-day signing was followed by eight more acquisitions before the month was up, as fans soaked up the action.

Of course, Pompey has a big challenge because they are shopping in a considerably tougher market than they were last year,

as evidenced by the relative scarcity of Championship business.

That is likely to imply that the intensity we saw then is not reproduced,

but the pattern of calm before deals are announced when the window opens can be expected.
