Southampton’s interest in Armando Broja

This summer, Southampton is considering a deal for Armando Broja of Chelsea.

The Saints are interested in bringing the forward back to the team after their promotion to the Premier League,

according to TBR Football.

While on loan at St. Mary’s for the 2021–22 season, Broja contributed to the team’s 15th-place finish in the standings.

Before heading back to Stamford Bridge, the Albanian made 32 league appearances and scored six goals (all stats from Fbref).

Rather, he was sent on loan to the Cottagers, where he played in just eight league games, all of which were as substitutes.

With Broja’s asking price now rumored to be less than half of the £50 million Chelsea demanded just six months ago,

Southampton is up against competition in the fight for him.

The forward is reportedly attracting interest from Everton and Wolves,

with Saudi Arabian clubs also in talks over a potential transfer.

The striker has also been linked to another recently promoted team Ipswich Town.

Southampton and the Tractor Boys are trying to assemble a team that can compete in the top division.

Southampton’s promotion success

With their victory over Leeds United in the play-off final last Sunday,

Southampton secured promotion back to the Premier League at their first attempt.

They managed to overcome the Whites with a 1-0 victory, which Adam Armstrong sealed at Wembley Stadium.

They had a chance at the final promotion spot after finishing fourth in the Championship table,

and they seized it by defeating West Brom en way to London.

Martin will now be making plans for life in the top league, identifying recruits who will assist them stay in the division for the long run.

Broja hasn’t kicked on since Southampton loan

Back when Ralph Hassenhuttl was still in the dugout, Broja had a successful stint on loan with the Saints.

But over the past two seasons, injuries and a lack of consistent playing time have caused his growth to stagnate.

His moving on loan to Fulham hasn’t improved his standing,

and Chelsea will now need to offer a more reasonable amount to get him.

The Saints should take a chance on a move if he is offered at a low cost,

although it is risky considering his struggles at Chelsea and Fulham.

Perhaps a loan move may be the best option for the time being,

but it remains to be seen whether the Blues would be open to that at this stage, as they need to raise money through sales.
