Top seeds Aryna Sabalenka and Novak Djokovic breezed through the French Open’s third round on Thursday as organizers clamped down on rowdy spectators by declaring an alcohol ban in the stands and dealt with the inconveniences brought on by the rainy conditions.

Playing under cover on Philippe Chatrier, second seed Sabalenka of Belarus easily defeated Moyuka Uchijima of Japan, even as Roland Garros organizers were mulling over what to do with the remaining matches following five days of rain. 6-2, 6-2

In the men’s draw, Roberto Carballes Baena, the unseeded player, gave the reigning champion Djokovic a very quick lesson before he won 6-4, 6-1, 6-2.

In an unpredictable season where he is vying for a record 25th Grand Slam victory, Djokovic has been far from his convincing best. However, the Spaniard forced the Serb to contend after bouncing back from an early break.

After leading by default in the ninth game, the 37-year-old stormed to the opening set as spectators on Court, setting up break point with a huge overhead smash. Philippe Chatrier felt as though things were getting back to more normal.

The three-time Roland Garros champion tightened his vice-like hold on the match in double fast time as Djokovic cranked up a gear in the following set to take a 4-0 lead before his opponent, who is thirty-one, even managed to get on the board.

The two previous meetings between the two players took place at big hard court tournaments; yet, on Parisian clay, the result was same as Djokovic easily won the third set, 5-1.
