Raphael Wicky appointment as Sunderland new manager all but confirmed – Two year deal signed
According to reports in Italian media, Sunderland will soon have a new manager in charge.
CalcioMercato. It appears with an exclusive scoop on the Black Cats reaching an arrangement with Raphael Wicky.
They say Sunderland and the coach have agreed to a two-year contract with an option for extra year if things go well.
They go on to say that Sunderland wants to’start again’ with the Swiss coach following a ‘terrible season’ and failing to return to the Premier League.
That will be the goal of the 47-year-old, who has been out of work since leaving BSC Young Boys in March.
He has led the Swiss club from June 2022 and finished with a record of 51 wins, 20 draws, and 17 loses in 88 games.
Prior to working there, he managed FC Basel, the US U-17 national team, and Chicago Fire FC.
Sunderland have been looking for a manager since the dismissal of Michael Beale in February. In the last months of the season, assistant Mike Dodds served as caretaker manager, and the club has finally found a new manager just a few weeks before the transfer window starts.
